London to Brighton Cycle is a classic ride. It begins in the iconic capital city of London, through the countryside of the North and South Downs, and finishes in the scenic coastal town of Brighton. The ride can easily be completed in a day, as part of an organized ride, or as an individual/small team challenge. It is possible to ride the whole journey off-road, but most people complete it on road. The average length of the ride is around 55 miles.

London to Brighton Cycle Route

The route you choose can begin anywhere in London, although it’s best to start near to or just south of the Thames river. Cycling through London is an experience in itself and you should be confident riding in heavy traffic, particularly if you choose to set off early (rush hour is probably best to avoid!).

You’ll soon pass through the south-London suburbs and cross the M25 into the hills of Surrey. Here the roads get less busy but there are some key hills to contend with.

Beacon Hill is a hill that’s included in many organiser’s routes, but whichever route you choose you will encounter hills of some description!

Suitability

Each year, thousands of people ride from London to Brighton in organised and non-organised events. On some of the larger organized events, riders of all abilities enjoy the ride and although there are some hills once you leave London, the challenge can be completed by anyone with experience of cycling and an average level of fitness.
