Norway is leading the way in car-free transport with this incredible cycling tunnel in the heart of Bergen. They’ve transformed a disused railway tunnel into a 2.9km traffic-free cycle lane for commuters and leisure cyclists alike.

Europe’s Longest Cycle Tunnel

Not only is this set to reduce the number of cars on the road, this ingenious tunnel will also reduce commuter times for the workforce of Bergen. The tunnel takes 8-10 minutes to cycle through or 35-45 minutes to walk.

Art installations

This is no ordinary tunnel either. The creators have commissioned local artists to create installations to make the tunnel more interesting for users.

The tunnel has been named Fyllingsdalstunnelen and cuts through the Løvstakken mountain in the southwest Norwegian city of Bergen, linking the residential areas of Fyllingsdalen and Mindemyren.

The tunnel is set to open on the 15th April 2023 with a running race and celebration of all things car-free!
