If you’re looking for proof that corporate adventure events can be more than a team-building tick-box exercise, look no further than what 37 people from Group Metropolitan just achieved in the Lake District.
Over two days, this team cycled, hiked and paddled their way across some of England’s toughest terrain — and in doing so, raised over £97,000 (and counting) for Reverse Rett, a charity funding research into a cure for Rett Syndrome.
We feel genuinely privileged and humbled to get to do this kind of work, with people like this. Here’s how it went.
What Is a Corporate Adventure Challenge?
A corporate adventure challenge combines multi-day physical activity — cycling, hiking, watersports and more — with team fundraising for a chosen cause. Unlike a standard corporate away day, these events push participants outside their comfort zone together, building genuine team resilience while raising serious money for charity.
The Peaks, Pedals, Paddles: Lake District Challenge is exactly that — a two-day, multi-activity corporate event through some of the UK’s most dramatic landscapes.

Day One: Honister Pass and the Roof of England
Cycling: 100km | 1,500m ascent
The team opened with a 100km road ride through the Lake District, including the notorious Honister Pass — one of the steepest and most demanding climbs in England.
Hiking: 15km | 1,075m ascent to the summit of Scafell Pike
Legs still warm from the saddle, the group then hiked 15km up to the summit of Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England. Reaching the top after a full day of cycling is no small achievement — a proper test of endurance and team spirit.

Day Two: Ullswater and the Final Push
Cycling: 68km | 1,150m ascent
Day two took the team out towards Ullswater and back — 68km of rolling Lake District roads and another 1,150m of climbing on legs that had already covered a marathon’s worth of ascent the day before.
Hiking: 15km | 625m ascent
A further 15km hike and 625m of ascent rounded out the on-foot challenge, before the team traded boots and bikes for paddles.

The Finale: Rafting on Derwent Water
To close out the challenge, the team took to the water for a rafting session on Derwent Water, beneath the peaks they’d spent two days climbing. A fitting — and slightly more relaxed — way to end an extraordinary two days.
Raising £97,000+ for Reverse Rett
This challenge wasn’t just about the miles and the metres of ascent. It was undertaken in support of Lily and the thousands of families affected by Rett Syndrome — a rare neurological condition that robs young girls of speech, movement and independence. Reverse Rett funds the research pushing toward a cure, and every pound raised this weekend brings that closer.
The total currently stands at over £97,000 — and the page is still open if you’d like to add to it:

Huge Congratulations to the Whole Team
To all 37 people who took this on — thank you. The commitment, the climbs, the early starts and the sheer willpower it took to keep going for two days is something to be genuinely proud of.
