What is a charity bike ride?

Ride for a cause. We’ll handle the rest.

A charity bike ride is an organised cycling challenge where riders collect sponsorship for a good cause. It might be a one-day ride of 25 to 100 miles, a four-day ride from London to Paris, or 1,000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

More Adventure has been running charity bike rides since 2010. Riders and teams on our events have raised £1,549,456 for good causes. We plan the route, book the hotels and provide leaders, a support vehicle and a mechanic. All you need to do is train, fundraise and ride.

Ready to ride for your cause?

Let’s talk

Your ride. Your route. Your cause.

How to organise a charity bike ride

From first idea to finish line.

Organising a charity bike ride yourself means routes, hotels, insurance, support vehicles and a lot of spreadsheets. Here’s how it works when we do it for you.

  1. Step 01Your brief

Choose your cause and your challenge

Tell us who you’re riding for, how many riders you expect and the kind of challenge you have in mind. We’ll come back with route ideas, dates and a price.

    Any location · any budget
  2. Step 02Planning

We plan and recce the route

We ride the route before you do, then handle the risk assessments, event insurance, hotels, ferries and transfers.

  3. Step 03The build-up

    Your riders train and fundraise

Everyone gets joining instructions and kit lists. You set up your fundraising pages and start sharing your story. Custom charity jerseys are available too.

  4. Step 04Ride days

    Briefings, leaders and support

Ride briefings, experienced leaders setting a sensible pace, first aid cover, a support vehicle and a bicycle mechanic. And a coffee stop with cake, obviously.

    Photographer / videographer available
  5. Step 05The finish

    Celebrate, then share the photos

A proper finish-line celebration, plus the photos that bring in those last-minute donations.

Money raised. Memories made.

Fundraising guide

How to raise more on your charity bike ride.

We’ve watched thousands of pounds come in for our riders’ causes. These are the things that make the biggest difference.

  1. 01

Set a target and say why

A clear target and a personal reason are the two things that move people to give. Tell your story in the first line of your fundraising page.

  2. 02

    Set up your page early

Create your JustGiving (or similar) page as soon as you book, and make the first donation yourself. Pages that start with a donation tend to attract more.

  3. 03

    Share your training

Post your long rides, early starts and wet Sundays. Every update is a fresh reminder to sponsor you.

  4. 04

    Ask about matched giving

Many employers will match what staff raise for charity. It’s the fastest way to double your total, so ask HR before you start.

  5. 05

    Remember Gift Aid

Ask UK taxpayers to tick the Gift Aid box. It adds 25% to their donation at no extra cost to them.

  6. 06

    Hold a side event

A bake sale, a quiz night or a sponsored spin session at work brings in money from people who won’t visit your page.

  7. 07

    Ride in your charity’s colours

A charity jersey makes great photos and gets you noticed on the road. We can arrange custom kit for bespoke rides.

  8. 08

    Post the finish photo

Lots of donations arrive after the ride. Share your finish-line photo and a heartfelt thank you, and keep your page open for a few weeks.

  • Ride back-to-back daysOn a multi-day ride, it’s day two and three that count. Try riding on consecutive days at weekends.
  • Get used to hillsAdd some climbs to your training rides, especially for the Alps, Wales or the Lake District.
  • Test your kitGet your bike serviced, and ride in the shorts, shoes and saddle you’ll use on the day.

Riding for charity

A charity bike ride is an organised cycling challenge where riders collect sponsorship for a good cause. It can be anything from a one-day ride of 25 to 100 miles to a multi-day trip such as London to Paris (275 miles over four days) or Land’s End to John O’Groats (around 1,000 miles). With More Adventure, the route, hotels, leaders, support vehicle and mechanic are all organised for you.

London to Paris is the classic charity bike ride, finishing under the Eiffel Tower. Other popular choices are London to Amsterdam, Land’s End to John O’Groats, coast to coast rides and bucket-list rides in the Alps and Italy. See our popular charity rides above.

No. None of our rides require sponsorship. You pay a one-off trip fee and you’re free to raise as much as you like for any charity you choose, or simply ride for the experience.

Yes. Because we don’t run charity places, you can raise money for any registered charity or good cause, large or small. Many of our riders ride for a cause close to their heart, or in memory of someone.

It depends on the ride. Our fully supported London to Paris Bike Ride costs £1,075 per person, with a single room option for an extra £200. Bespoke charity rides are priced on your route, group size and dates, so get in touch for a quote.

Choose a ride and date on the trip page and secure your place by paying a small deposit. If you have a group, or can’t see the right date, get in touch and we’ll help.

Absolutely. Lots of riders join our open charity rides on their own and finish with a new group of friends. You’re equally welcome with a partner, friends or a club.

It’s up to you and your supporters. Recent examples: Group Metropolitan raised £100,000 for Reverse Rett on one two-day challenge, 20 Action Duchenne riders raised over £100,000 cycling Land’s End to John O’Groats, and 10 riders from Cambridge Community Church raised £11,500 cycling London to Paris.

Set up an online fundraising page, for example on JustGiving, so donations go straight to your charity. Ask UK taxpayers to add Gift Aid, check whether your employer offers matched giving, and see our fundraising tips above.

Fitness, safety and the ride

No. Our rides welcome a wide range of abilities and our leaders set a sensible pace, so nobody gets left behind. You do need to be comfortable riding a bike on the road and to train properly beforehand. Each trip page shows its difficulty level, and we’re happy to help you choose.

Give yourself three months or more for a multi-day ride. Build your distance gradually, ride on back-to-back days at weekends, include some hills, and do your longer rides in the kit you’ll use on the day. Our free eBook, 101 tips for multi-day cycling, has plenty more.

A road bike or a good hybrid in sound working order is ideal for most of our rides. Get it serviced before the trip. If you’re not sure your bike is suitable, ask us.

Our rides have a support vehicle and a bicycle mechanic, so punctures and mechanical problems are dealt with quickly and you can get back on the road.

Safety comes first. We recce routes, carry out risk assessments and use quiet roads wherever possible. Every ride is run by experienced leaders with outdoor first aid qualifications, backed by a support vehicle.

It’s a fully supported and guided trip. You start in Blackheath, ride through Kent, take the ferry from Dover to Calais and cycle three days through northern France to finish under the Eiffel Tower. There’s a celebratory meal on day four, a night and a free day in Paris, then the Eurostar home, where our team meets you with your bikes and luggage. See the trip page for the full list of inclusions.

For charities, companies and groups

Yes. We design and run bespoke charity bike rides for charities of all sizes: route planning and recce, risk assessments, event insurance, leaders, support vehicles, a mechanic, accommodation and logistics. You focus on recruiting riders and fundraising.

Yes. Corporate charity rides are one of the things we do best, from one-day rides local to your office to office-to-office rides abroad. Group Metropolitan have raised over £250,000 for Reverse Rett over three events with us. See our corporate cycling events page for more.

From a handful of friends to large teams. Group Metropolitan’s Sea to Summit and Lake District challenges each had 37 fundraisers. Tell us your numbers and we’ll plan the right level of support.

Anywhere you like, in the UK or overseas. Recent rides include London to Paris, Paris to London, Land’s End to John O’Groats, North Wales, the Lake District, Cambridge to Copenhagen and Marseille to Cannes.

As early as you can. For a bespoke multi-day ride, six to twelve months gives your riders time to train and fundraise. Shorter lead times are often possible, so ask.

Yes. On bespoke events we can add a hiking route alongside the ride. On Group Metropolitan’s Sea to Summit challenge, fundraisers chose between a 175-mile cycle and a 42km hike to the summit of Yr Wyddfa.

Yes. We can arrange customised teamwear and merchandise for bespoke rides, plus a photographer or videographer to capture the event for your supporters.

Fill in the enquiry form on this page, call us on 020 8720 6607, message us on WhatsApp at 07719 224663 or email info@moreadventure.co.uk. Tell us about your cause and your riders, and we’ll come back to you with ideas.
